PORT GIBSON: MS Blues Trail marker dedication for Lil Green

Friday, 9/13, a Mississippi Blues Trail marker will be dedicated in Port Gibson to the great vocalist Lil Green, best known for the song “Why Don’t You Do Right?,” later covered by Peggy Lee and Jessica Rabbit.  Appropriately, there will be several female vocalists at the event, Eden Brent and Jureesa “The Duchess” McBride
The song was based on “Weed Smoker’s Dream” by the Harlem Hamfats, a Chicago-based group featuring brothers Charlie and Joe McCoy from Raymond, Mississippi. The song was written by Joe, aka Kansas Joe, who was the musical and marital partner for a while of Memphis Minnie.
