In Memphis on Airways near the airport, which hosts a nice soul-blues show every Sunday night. EC used to run the Hard Luck Cafe at 3rd and McLemore, which was a wonderfully funky establishment. He called to tell me about the Dark Corner Blues Festival near Nesbit, which features a lot of Memphis-based soul-blues acts. This year’s performers include Karen Wolfe, Preacher Man, Booker Brown, Big John Cummings, Queen Ann Hines, Bluesman Cowboy Neil, Gerard Rayburn, and Little Howlin’ Wolf.
The gates open at 3pm, music starts at 5pm. Tickets are $20 in advance (not sure where!), $25 at the gate, and you can bring lawn chairs and coolers.
