This Saturday Denise LaSalle will be performing at the Denise LaSalle Homecoming Concert in her hometown of Belzoni at Mascot’s on Highway 49 (just north of town). LaSalle appears at 10:30, and will be preceded by Black Ice.
The evening begins at 9pm with a talent contest featuring four young men who will be performing older blues standards. Winners of the multi-stage contest will appear at the inaugural Blues Reunion Festival and/or Blues Music Awards in Belzoni (date not set) and win a recording with Denise LaSalle.
The event is presented by the Mississippi Delta Blues Society of Belzoni, which will he hosting Pinetop Perkins next Friday at noon for a pre-opening ceremony for a community center in Pinetop’s honor, on Highway 49 north of Belzoni next to Pinetop’s MS Blues Trail Marker.
