CARROLTON: 2019 MS John Hurt Homecoming Festival!

This October 2019 the Mississippi John Hurt Homecoming Festival celebrates their 20th year..
For 19 years, John Hurt’s granddaughter, Mary Hurt Wright, and a small group of steadfast fans
gathered honoring the spirit and unique musical technique of one of the country’s legendary
bluesmen. This year Inspired by the influence Mississippi John Hurt had on his own style of
playing, Taj Mahal has curated the line up, featuring other musicians who’ve carried on John
Hurt’s style. The 2019 line-up includes seasoned and younger performers influenced by the late
great master. The Homecoming Festival takes place on the family land where the MJH museum
and the church he worshiped have been relocated too. Blues will be featured on Saturday and
Gospel on Sunday. Museum tours will be held throughout the day too!
Saturday’s line up includes: The Howard Curry Duo, Dom Flemmons, Piedmont Bluz Acoustic
Duo, Jim Kweskin, Guy Davis with Christopher James, Taj Mahal with special guest Jesse Colin
Young.
Sunday features an open mic, Como Mamas, Gigi Iam, Pastor Jay Terrell with Country Jim and
more to be confirmed.
Please join us at the Mississippi John Hurt Museum for two days of fun and fellowship!
All profits from the Homecoming Festival will go to the MJH Foundation in support of musical
instruction for youth and disadvantaged women.
