CLARKSDALE: Blues Trail Marker Dedication for WROX Radio Station (noon)

WROX RADIO – BLUES TRAIL MARKER

EVENT: Blues Trail Marker Dedication for historic WROX Radio Station location (noon with events to follow).

LOCATION: Clarksdale, Mississippi. 200 Block of Delta Avenue, downtown (across from Cat Head blues store).

MORE INFO: Historic WROX radio in Clarksdale was the home of legendary African-American blues/gospel pioneer Early Wright for 50 years. Other notables to take to the air on WROX include Ike Turner, Robert Nighthawk and even Elvis Presley. KFFA’s King Biscuit Time Radio Show even broadcast from the studios of WROX at one point (according to Sunshine Sonny Payne). Today, the station still features blues radio programming on Saturday nights — including the Cat Head Delta Blues Show featuring Mississippi blues music (7pm-9pm, wroxradio.com). The WROX Radio Station location being celebrated by the new Blues Trail Marker was one of its earliest locations and is already on the National Historic Register. It is currently home to the WROX Museum.

ALSO: Note that the Juke Joint Festival & Related Events kick off with this dedication. More info at www.jukejointfestival.com.
