Wednesday,January 11. 6:30 p.m., Clarksdale native, Travis Calvin will share hismusical talents in Clarksdale, MS and the public is invited to attendthis free family event.
“Praise and Worship” was Travis’ senior project for the Delta Music Institute (DMI) at Delta State University. The DMI SENIOR PROJECT required Calvin to record, mix, and master the entire cd himself. Thecd/album is an easy-listening/instrumental gospel project. A total of 7songs are on the project, one of which Calvin wrote in his songwritingclass at the Delta Music Institute. The accompanying musicians includeTravis Calvin’s twin brother, Trent Calvin, PJ Walker, Jarrett Box, andworld renowned orchestra conductor, Maestro Ezra Howard whowill accompany on saxophone. Guest vocalists include first lady of New Covenant Baptist Church, Kandis Webb and also Benjamin Saulsberry.
As one of Mississippi’sleadingguitarists, Travis has shared the stage with countless blues and gospelartists including B. B. King, Bobby Rush, Rance Allen, Marvin Sapp,Dorinda Clark Cole, Williams Brothers, Dorothy Norwood, Lee Williams,Bill Howl-n-Mad Perry, Dr. Alphonso Sanders, and many others.
His television appearances include Nickelodeon and the Travel Channel.
Travis was the firstrecipient from the Mississippi Delta of a distinguished five weekscholarship to the Berklee School of Music in Boston to share his bluestalents with artists of all musical genres at the camp and to learn fromother attendees and instructors.
Agraduate of Clarksdale High School, Travis was co-valedictorian atCoahoma Community College with twin brother Trent before attending DeltaState University. Calvin also works part-time at Clarksdale’s DeltaBlues Museum.
