INDIANOLA: BB King Museum w/Dr. Mark Howell, noon

The B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center welcomes Dr. Mark Howell, Director of Winterville Mounds Park and Museum, to Lucille’s Gift Shop, on Friday, August 27 at noon.

Dr. Howell will discuss the archaeology of the blues – uncovering instruments and other music related materials that were left in the ground in places like the Delta – and how that helps us understand the origin of the blues.

Dr. Howell’s talk will utilize archaeology, musicology, along with recorded and live music examples in order to explore the evidence for the truth behind the Blues.

Dr. Mark Howell received an MFA in Music Composition from the State University of New York at Stony Brook (1996) and a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the City University of New York (2004).  Among his many achievements, he was the 1996 Composer in Residence at the American Dance Festival and the 1997 recipient of the Mississippi Arts and Letters Awards for Music Composition.

High Noon Brown Bag Luncheons are held at the B.B. King Museum on the last Friday of every month, at 12 noon. Bring your lunch.  Beverages are available for purchase.  No advance reservation required.
